Pianist/composer Marcus Roberts has been hailed “the genius of the modern piano.” In 2014, the celebrated CBS News television show, 60 Minutes, profiled his life and work on a segment entitled “The Virtuoso.” Roberts has won numerous awards and competitions, but the one that is most personally meaningful is the Helen Keller Award for Personal Achievement. In addition to his renowned recording career, Roberts is an accomplished composer who has received numerous commissioning awards, including ones from Chamber Music America, Jazz at Lincoln Center, ASCAP, as well as the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra.
At the forthcoming Jazz at the Lesher Center 2018 Concert Series, Roberts presents The Modern Jazz Generation. The band includes three generations of musicians, and according to Roberts, the MJG is more than just a band—it’s a community of like-minded musicians who love working together.
Running Time: approx. 75 minutes, with no intermission
