Presented by Diablo Symphony Orchestra
April 2, 2017
Music Direction & Conducted by Matilda Hofman
featuring Guest Conductor Lara Webber

Come explore the intersection of symphonic music and visual art with composers who create vivid art with composers who create vivid impressions with musical sound.  Using the instruments of the orchestra like an artist's palette, Debussy experiments with shifting shadows and bursts of light in Nocturnes, inspired by paintings of the same name.  Mussorgsky's famous Pictures at an Exhibition takes us on a promenade through several works of art, bringing each subject to life in Ravel's brilliant orchestration.

Claude Debussy - Nocturnes ("Nuages"/"Fetes")
Yen Liang Young Artist Competition winner
Modest Mussorgsky - Pictures at an Exhibition (orch. Ravel)

Running Time: approx. 1 hour 45 mintues, with one intermission
