CHAMBER MUSIC SAN FRANCISCO ANNOUNCES:
SERGEI BABAYAN REPLACING NELSON FREIRE ON MAY 14

For family reasons, pianist Nelson Freire has had to cancel his North American tour, including his solo recital for Chamber Music San Francisco at the Lesher Center for the Arts on Saturday, May 14 at 2:30 pm.
Replacing Mr. Freire will be the pianist Sergei Babayan, whom Le Figaro has praised for his "unequalled touch, perfectly harmonious phrasing and breathtaking virtuosity." A winner of the Cleveland and Hamamatsu competitions, Babayan plays with the world’s top orchestras led by such conductors as Valery Gergiev, Yuri Temirkanov and Neeme Jarvi.  He regularly plays chamber music with such stars as Martha Argerich and Daniil Trifonov (who is also Babayan’s student).  Babayan graduated from the Moscow Conservatory and studied with Mikhail Pletnev, and currently teaches at Juilliard, Babayan and the Cleveland Institute of Music.
Mr. Babayan’s program will include works by Bach and Chopin.  The exact program will be available soon on the Chamber Music San Francisco website - www.chambermusicSF.org

All tickets for Nelson Freire will be honored at Mr. Babayan’s performance.
