Oasis by Helen Pickett - World Premiere
Return to a Strange Land by Jirí Kylián
Tutto Eccetto il Lavandino (everything but the kitchen sink) by Val Caniparoli

Smuin Ballet premieres Helen Pickett’s Oasis, a lyrical and reverent ode to water. With an original score by Emmy Award-winning composer Jeff Beal (Netflix’s House of Cards), this powerful work celebrates water's abundance and its essential role in life.  The program also includes Jirí Kylián’s masterpiece Return to a Strange Land, a poignant reflection on the strange land we enter when we pass from this world. Created for six dancers and combining classical and contemporary dance forms, Return to a Strange Land sets a mood of sadness and longing and ultimately, acceptance. Also on the program is Val Caniparoli’s Tutto Eccetto il Lavandino (everything but the kitchen sink), set to the music of Vivaldi. At its core a neoclassical work, Caniparoli’s choreography moves from classical to contemporary ballet to theatricality over eleven inventive movements. Dynamic and modern, the piece integrates Vivaldi’s musical composition in new and surprising ways.
